How did you get into coaching?

I got into coaching in 2020. I wanted to do the L1 because CrossFit completely changed the way I exercised. I fully believe in the methodology and wanted to learn more about it.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

My favourite thing about coaching is being able to encourage people to push further than they might do if they were training alone.

Favourite movement/WOD

Favourite movement has to be burpees. I also love pull-ups and T2B. And Murph.

The thing I enjoy most about coaching is seeing people progress. Particularly when you know someone who has put the work in!

How did you get into coaching?

I’ve always wanted to coach and finally got around to it early 2024! It’s been long overdue! As I’m a teacher by trade, and I have been a gym instructor and sports coach in the past, this was a natural progression for me!

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

Helping others and seeing their progress - passing on wisdom is what it’s all about!

COACH SAM

How did you get into coaching?

I started coaching straight out of uni in 2009 and since then have been lucky enough to coach professional footballers, rugby players, MMA fighters, divers, aspiring Olympians, military units… pretty much every sport / athlete from amateur to the elite. In that time I have also managed to spend time lecturing undergrads in strenth and conditioning at the Uni of Glos. Along the way I’ve gained a degree in sports science, masters in strength and conditioning, became professionally accredited with the UK Strength and Conditioning association in 2011 as well as various other NASM, British weightlifting and CrossFit certifications.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

The marginal gains. Those moments when you help an athlete unlock a subtle improvement in technique which paves the way to new physical capability.

Favourite movement/WOD

If you asked me this a few years ago would’ve been Whitten. Nowadays it’s anything weightlifting based.

I’ve been coaching CrossFit since October 2020.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

I get a real satisfaction from people making progress. Even if it’s only a small change it technique that unlocks something in that moment. I also enjoy watching someone’s journey, I know a number of members who are proficient in CrossFit who started off never having done some of the movements we do.

Favourite movement/WOD

Love Olympic lifting, snatch is my favourite.

Interesting/funny fact members might not know about you?

COACH VICKY

How did you get into coaching?

I started Crossfit in my 30s and it changed my life. After 5 years or so, I decided to do my level 1 to coach at my previous job, where I coached teenagers and I'd try to move them away from bro-splits to a functional way of training. I was already training at CBE, so I started to coach there as well.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

I really enjoy watching people gain confidence in the gym, doing things they never thought were possible.

Favourite movement/WOD

I really like pistol squats.

Interesting/funny fact members might not know about you?

Not really interesting but I absolutely love my bed and quite often put myself to bed at 20:30.

SARAH (ADMIN)

How did you get into working for CBE?

I’ve done Crossfit now for over 10 years and really love everything it offers. Having been at CBE since February 2023, I immediately felt part of a community and loved the vibe here. When the opportunity came up to take on the admin for gym, I couldn’t help but say yes – I’m such an admin geek!

What do you enjoy most about working for CBE?

CBE is such a positive place to be; and doing the admin and looking after all the members and coaches just adds to that community feel for me. It’s lovely to feel part of something and feel like I’m making a difference for people!

Favourite movement/WOD

It has to be handstand push ups, they’re my “signature move”!

Interesting/funny fact members might not know about you?

Toby the baby from the ‘Labrynth’ film was the best man at our wedding (…he’s my husband’s childhood friend!)

"Everyone is super friendly and incredibly supportive. Even during the taster sessions I’ve had some of my bad lifting habits/technique corrected. Made to feel welcome from day one and the coaches are fantastic!"
